The Physics Education Research Group at Leipzig University is led by Prof. Dr. Philipp Bitzenbauer.

Its research focuses on:

  • the teaching and learning of modern physics (especially quantum physics and astronomy) in schools and higher education,
  • the use of digital media (especially artificial intelligence and augmented reality) and maker technologies (e.g., robotics, 3D-printing) in physics education, and
  • the development and evaluation of innovative concepts for physics teaching and teacher education, in particular focusing on education for sustainable development.

In the student laboratory XtremLab, the Physics Education Research Group offers hands-on science through five student lab programs connected to the research focuses of the Faculty of Physics and Earth System Sciences at Leipzig University, spanning topics from astronomy and quantum physics to photovoltaics.

 

.The following key staff members will be directly involved in the project:

  • Philipp Bitzenbauer is a Full Professor of Physics Education Research at Leipzig University, where he leads the Chair of Physics Education Research at the Faculty of Physics and Earth System Sciences.
